Our new study shows 70.9% of the fins in the Hong Kong shark fin trade are from species threatened with extinction. Led by distinguished postdoctoral fellow Dr. Diego Cardeñosa, the study found 86 species from 9,820 fin trimmings collected between 2014 and 2018, highlighting that wedgefishes and chimaeras are also found in the trade. The authors press for improved management, especially for coastal chondrichthyan species.
